The Kingdom

jesus-at-gethsemaneYour kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

On the subject of the Kingdom of God, this is perhaps one of the most telling scriptures there is. In this single verse, you can tell quite a lot about the Kingdom. Let’s have a look…

  1. The Kingdom already exists. It “is”. It is not a “future kingdom” we are praying about, it is a current one.
  2. The Kingdom is in heaven. It is spiritual, not physical.
  3. It is Christ’s Kingdom. It is the only one He ever spoke of.
  4. It is the Father’s Kingdom. Jesus said, “Your” Kingdom. This, of course, also shows that Jesus sitting sitting on the Father’s throne is the throne of David.
  5. The Kingdom is in some form here.  We cannot use this verse to say that the Kingdom is not here already, because we also pray for God’s will to be done in the same manner.  If we used this verse to justify saying the Kingdom was not here yet, we would also have to say that God’s will is not done at all here yet.  Since it is not God’s will to that any should perish, we would have to say that all are damned.  Rather, since we see that God’s will is here in part, and must yet further come, we see the same regarding the Kingdom.  The Kingdom, fully full, is not fully come into every aspect of every part of every person’s life.  So, we pray for it to come.
  6. Heaven doesn’t change. The prayer is that the Earth would change and reflect the rule of God in the heavens. The Kingdom coming to Earth is a manifestation, a reflection, a cooperation with what is there. The Kingdom does not cease to be spiritual, but we can enter into it and participate with it.
  7. There is a lack of the Kingdom. We do pray for it to yet “come”.  We believe there can be more of the Kingdom, just as there can be more of God’s will being done.  We believe it is reflected wherever the “works of the devil” are manifested, being sickness, disease, death, and poverty. The Kingdom is to be prayed into these things, at which time, the heavenly rule will produce a natural shift.
  8. These are daily. As with #1, this is a “present kingdom”. We do not pray for yesterday’s Kingdom, nor do we pray for tomorrow’s. Give us this day our daily bread. We need what heaven has today, even as we live by every proceeding word from God.
  9. The Kingdom can come today, right now, in any situation! It is pointless to pray for something that can’t happen. If we can ask for God’s will to be done, we are not asking for an end-times encounter. Neither are we asking for His Kingdom to come in a final, climactic way. These are “daily”. We must ask for the Kingdom to come and manifest in every situation of our lives. We must let Him be King and take over.
  10. The Kingdom of God is available through prayer. Jesus told us to pray for this to happen. Some of the Kingdom coming into our lives will only ever happen because we ask for it. He surely will not deny justice to His elect, who cry out to Him day and night!
  11. God’s reign is established in us through our hearts. It starts in our heart, and affects the whole world. Just as with the worship of Mary’s broken flask, the fragrance of the perfume of her act filled the entire room where she was at. Do not underestimate the Kingdom of God. Simply do your part, and God will flow out. He will touch everyone, and everything else, if you simply yield your vessel, and become a conduit for His glory. This is the essence of His Kingdom. There is no other thing, no other place, and no other dominion. None can stop, none can top, none can counter, and none can defeat. There is no failure, ever, on the part of the Kingdom of God, only upon those who try to live it.

This is the challenge. Matthew 6:33. Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, and all these things shall be added, annexed, or added onto you.
